Very nice coin probably grade to extra fine and I think anyone would be happy to have it in the collection if they could afford it

Also sorry forgot the price tag on this beauty is $1650 and is advertised as EF lustrous by a new found dealer of mine Klaus Ford and must say so far have been very very happy with the coins he sells.

Ask Klaus if it's been cleaned.

Does it look cleaned? He said it was EF lustrous. Anyway I am kinda worried about the edge nick on the obverse so do any of you think I should buy it?

Quote: Does it look cleaned? It has that 'Baking Soda' look(IMO) to it but hard to tell for certain.I've seen similar coins go for a lot less money but they are hard to find so if you wish to save a $1000 you would have to be very patient. All of the above is just MO of course.

A seller who from what I have heard is notorious for selling cleaned coins.

just looked up bicarbonate soda and silver and apparently it is used in silver dip. does anyone here know what a coin looks like that has been dipped and really enworb? I am quite shocked to be honest I thought he was a good dealer and aparently is one of the founding members of ANDA so if this is true then I have just lost all confidence in ANDA. anyway he has a fourteen day guarantee if I you are not happy.
Also to rule out cleaning or dipping I will ask him if it has a cartwheel effect which should indicate wether it is cleaned or not?

IMO ANDA is only in existence so that coin fairs can be organised and so that dealers can put a sign up that apparently says theyre ethical. Seeing as many members clearly arent its just a nothing piece of paper. Its a money making excercise, not an association designed to foster growth in numismatic interest. If it was a central body that was run by people who are not dealers and arent associated with other dealers it might have more legitimacy.

If he admits to it being cleaned you might get it a bit cheaper and it is stil a very nice coin but just not for slabbing

Light cleaning or dipping will dull the cartwheel effect but not necessarily remove it completely. It's much easier just to ask if it's been cleaned, he'll probably be upfront about it.
The ANDA code of ethics requires that dealers reveal work done on a coin when asked but nowhere does it require ANDA members to reveal cleaning if they aren't asked. On the Australian forum there's a discussion about a 'Gem uncirculated' 1924 florin purchased off another ANDA member which came back from PCGS as 'Cleaned - UNC details'. The collector made the mistake of not asking if the coin was original and the dealer refused a refund.
When dealing with ANDA members, get a written guarantee that it's original and uncleaned - if you're communicating by e-mail, a copy of the e-mail is good enough - if later you find it to have been cleaned, you will have a better chance of obtaining a refund.

Okay I sent off an email to him and gee I really thought ANDA would be better than how it is portrayed although perhaps it is just me in my little perfect world. Also thanks wwwww In the email I asked him if it had a cartwheel effect. Anyway I just hope it is the lustre or the coin just at a bad angle I mean seeing something on a screen on one angle is one thing but seeing it in hand is completely different. So the general consensus is that everyone is certain it has been cleaned or that it looks possible?
Edit: just looked at the obverse picture and it looks like it has cartwheel lustre with the shine from opposite sides of the coin.

Hi OMF, Have you seen the coin yourself or are you just working off pictures? I'm not sure where you're located but if you were forking out that much for a coin you should go view it.

Working of pictures at the moment but when I purchase it I have 14 days to inspect it in hand and then decide if I want to keep it if I change my mind I can return it and get a full refund
