so I recently bought a coin for more than I have ever paid on the premise it was a certain grade, I have now received the coin and worry that I may have been sold a massively over graded coin.
so with this is mind can I have opinions as to where you think this coin would fall grading wise?

There looks like theres a bit of lustre on the obverse in the devices and also a little on the reverse maybe. The obverse seems to be a pretty ordinary strike but the reverse seems alright. Id say in the EF range but its very hard to tell from those pictures. Try having the light more perpendicular to the surface rather than way to the side.

What grade did the seller nominate?

The best I could go on this is F to aVF.
The obverse seems fairly worn and the reverse is maybe a little better.
I hope you didn't pay too much for this one.

I would go around high XF, Still has luster, Maybe a weak strike on the obverse, there is noticeable lack of detain in the head. And the Rim Ding takes it down a lil

They are known for weak strikes Trout. I think the obverse never had the detail there to begin with. It would be very unusual to have that much lustre and only grade F.

to be honest that was my thought and hope, if I could get strong xf to aunc I would be happy
it was sold as aunc-unc but I knew it would be lower with the rim ding. I bid on it being xf
would you say $70 was a good price?

I'm still hoping I stumble across one in the junk bins around here(Oregon)...its not an easy one to find even trying for it.
I have more luck with finding low mintage NZ stuff here in the States

VERY difficult to find George V1's effigy sharply struck up with the Melbourne '42 plains.
In fact, I have never seen one. Maybe one or two exist.
My coin is very similar to the examples pictured.

I have just done a search on Google Images.
I failed to find a sharp effigy of George V1 there, either.

I think you would get a better result if you used a couple lights and made sure they were perpendicular to the surface of the coin rather than on the angle as you have now. Did you just use sunlight? Maybe try a desk lamp and if youre happy with that then look at buying some lights.
