I bought Self-Adhesive for my coins figuring that I have no intention on selling. Once they are in the album, it's staying there for a lifetime.
I've noticed that every coin seller has used the stapled 2x2s.
Does anyone has a personal opinion of why they choose one or the other? If you use only capsules or slabs I'd like to hear about why too!

Staples because no matter what, I can't stop thinking about glue and my coins.

I agree. I know that stapling "has its own dangers." But no way am I going to surround my coins in glue.

I use both stapled and glued types. But I never take the protective cover off the glued ones! And therefore they get used as stapled flips. Glued or stapled, it depends what I can get hold of at the time.
By using stapled flips, it is possibe to re use them for other coins, should the need arise.

For very valuable coins that live in my rather small safe, I use screwed acrylic capsules. I have been around long enough to have confidence in the accurate grading of my own coins. Besides slabbing does not lend itself well to ancient coins.
I am NOT a fan of slabbed coins, unless I wish to sell them back to the 'States.

Thanks for everyone's input. The glue is a concern for certain. I think the deciding factor, for me, is whether or not I will remove them from the flip. Stapling definitely makes changes easier though.
I tried pulling apart a glued 2x2---what a chore!

Personally, for my loose coins, I use 2x2 vinyl flips (without the PVC). The coin goes in one side and a paper insert with the coin's info goes into the other. I've seen these stapled before so you cannot open it back up, but I don't do that. I am one of those who wants to be able to hold a coin in my hand, regardless of what kind it is (other than proof or really rare coin...). I've always thought the adhesive 2x2's were really flimsy and preferred the staple ones until I got into the vinyl.

I use clear tape on 3 sides of my 2x2's. I do have some stapled but really don't like that method. The reason I like clear tape is to open one you just take a sharp knife and slit them open. Then easiy reusable. Some of the 3M types of tape that are translucent can also be written on so it's easy to write on the tape. Also, if placing a 2x2 in those plastic sheets for 20 2x2's, they slide in easier. Also, if storing in boxes, don't get snagged on a staple. AND primarily, if your as cheap as I am, a roll of that tape can tape a real lot of 2x2's.

When you do that do you find that the coin stays where it is supposed to? I might need to give that a whirl!

I use both but mainly stapled. I only use the adhesive for very low grade, low value coins as I dont want to take the risk with the glue on anything decent. If you are going to use staples go to a office supply shop and get a flat clinch stapler!

I only use stapled. they can be reused if your careful. The glue ones I tried long ago, too hard to remove coins once the glue settles.

I use the self adhesive 2x2's. They are ascetically more pleasing than the ugly staples and I don't consider the chemicals in the glue to be any threat to my coins. They also keep the coin orientated and not able to move around like the saflips. They also fit better in my 2x2 albums and don't "Catch" like the staple type do

Well, I´m dealing with this dilema, using staples or adhesive. Both have their issues. About adhesive, I fear the glue. About staples, they don't fit very well, they don't give a good look to the coin display. Besides, can some staples get rusty?

I have heard that self adhesive is better because it gives it an air tight seal. I am still fairly new at coin protection however so I guess I will have to wait and see long term.If I buy coins in the stapled type though I generally leave them.

I would like to know more about the adhesive, one would think, or hope, most manufacturers would consider this when offered.

Side note , I tried a glue stick that seemed safe , I fiqured kids eat the stuff , so how bad can it be . Brilliant , but not to be, it won't stick to the plastic on the 2x2s.
