Just picked this one up and wondered what everyone's thoughts are as far as grade. Please note the coin has no scratches. The ones you are seeing in the pictures are from the slab. Thanks for looking! I'll post the answer after everyone who wants one has a chance to guess. Edited by srs77 06/26/2013 9:00 pm

MS65- Are you sure the scratches aren't die polish lines? They're present in the fields and low levels of the design, something characteristic of this die work.

I stand corrected. I grabbed my loupe and looked more closely by moving the slab around. While there are scratches on the slab there are die polishing lines on the coin and I believe that's what you're seeing.

I'll guess it barely made MS-65. The strike is a little soft which I think will hold it from any higher grade.

I think the lines are die polish marks, and the strike is quite soft and weak but an absence of marks and ticks makes this coin grade MS65 to me. I'm with D0ubl3Eagle on it.

@ dsfreeworld- I dont think the mint made any proof Mercury dimes in 1944 (albeit it does look proof-like in the pics!). I will guess MS-66

I agree with MS65 but MS66 on the label wouldn't shock me.

Eight Dollars? The only coins I see in antique shops are overpriced coins and bills. I would certainly say that you did well! BTW I was going to say MS65. She's a Beauty!

You did awesome! How's the luster? It seems to be more proof-like than it does lustrous.
