After completing my PCGS 7070 (no gold...yet) I still find myself looking at potential upgrades, but I am beginning to lose interest in it. We all have that " one" that we want in our collection, which is obtainable, but is just out of reach. I am not referring to a 1913 Liberty Nickle, 1894-S Barber dime, 1933 St. Gaudens or other unobtainable coin. I am going to have to think about this on for a while. What coin do you really want?

Right now, there are two coins occupying that spot:
Heraldic Eagle (1801-07) Half Dollar
$1 Gold Indian Head (Type II)
Once a year I try to hit a major coin show and usually end up spending around $2000 on a variety of coins and bills. Maybe this year I'll just focus on these two coins instead. I would think I'd be able to find a decent example of the first one for $1000-1500 and the second one for around $500, but we'll see.

1861-O Confederate half, 1861-O Louisianna half, and a standard 1861-O half. All in good shape. I'm waiting until I have a real job to pursue them.

I'm waiting for my 1925 nickel and the four small cent key dates.
But if I were to save up for just one coin... I think it would be a nice 1935 dollar. Or would it be the 1936 dot quarter? I'm kind of ahead of my priorities here...

I've had the 1815 Bust Half Dollar on my wish list for a long time. If I were to buy one my coin budget would be seriously overdrawn. The idea that there would be no coins arriving in my mailbox for a very long time makes me hesitate to buy one. A more realistic coin I see as my next major purchase is a 1796 Liberty Cap Large Cent. I already have a 1796 Draped Bust Large Cent so the Liberty Cap could be its companion. I'm watching some and hope to make a purchase in the next few months. Based on my budget I probably will only be able to afford a modest grade.

muddler, that seems to be my problem...saving up for a BIG ONE. That is probably why I have/had so many irons in the fire. I am about to parole my 1943/2-P DDO Jefferson, one more payment and he is coming home!

I have 3 on my big hit list...A 1794 large cent in VG and a 1916D merc in VG. I am also still waiting for the right late date (1849-57) half-cent for my type set in AU at the right price. have been looking for 2 years for that one.

While there is no particular coin that falls into that criteria, a type set of Seated Liberty coins from Carson city comes close. The Half is next, to be followed by the dollar and perhaps a Trade dollar. I have the dime, Twenty Cent and Twenty Cent Pieces. Beyond that, any item that has WOW eye appeal is subject to my examination and possible purchase. I stumble on the best coins when I am not targeting them. They find ME!

One of the three keys to the Large Cent series (Chain Cent, 1799 and 1804 Draped Bust). Those are the three holes I have in my coppers from 1793 through 2013 (1856 FEC excepted ).

High grade 1872 DDO, Proof Small Motto Two Cent Piece, and any major error (Double struck, brockerage, off center) of the same series - currently I'd need low to mid five figure bids to even get a dealers interest or be in the running to win at an auction. Just not doable in the foreseeable future, so unless I win the lottery... Next up would be early drapped bust Half Cents in MS condition - some of those might be obtainable to me. Any condition census - high grade early type coins from the 1800's.

westcoin, I had to look up " condition census", this is proabably one of many explainations; "Condition Census as the top grade received by the top 5-6 coins, plus ties. So, if there were multiple coins with the same grade as the lowest grade coin to attain one of the top 5-6 slots, then all coins with that same grade would also be considered Condition Census." http://www.1stnationalreserve.com/p...august07.pdf

Just beyond my means: Any year "top-pop" brown Half Cent with a CAC sticker. It would be neat to have a theoretically un-improvable coin! Way beyond my means: Any condition 1796 or 1831 Half Cent. One that always tempts me: 1798 or 1799 draped bust dollar in VF or XF. I don't collect these, but I consider them gorgeous, dramatic coins. I'm always watching auctions for nice ones - but they never manage to stay below my price cutoff.
