I recently acquired this SL half dollar, has a couple of nicks and scratches on the obverse but appears to be original surfaces. I paid $44, hope that I did O.K. on it. What grade would you assign it?

VF-25 details (scratches, nicks). We use to call one like this a "filler".

VF details. $40 maybe top end. I like to pay about 25% retail for detail grade unless its a rare piece; I need it or really like it. If you like it then you didn't do too bad

F15 Details but the corrosion and environmental damage bring down the price. That taken in mind, you only slightly overpaid.

The fields look a little strange to me, but I still think it's geniune.
Should be weighed to confirm.
Some of the high points are starting to wear flat.
F15.

VF20 details surfaces corroded and scratched.

For future reference Ray, keep in mind a damaged coin, especially one that has extensive damage to the design and into the fields should only bring 50% at most of FMV. I occasionally buy a damaged coin, and if so I never pay anywhere near 50% even.
