EF/AU and cleaned most likely knowing it's a GSC coin. Almost looks like dellars darkner was applied.

AU-50. Not sure I see anything that indicates a cleaning. Nice razor sharp coin.

I am always suspicious of GSC coins. They tend to enhance things a little. This coin could be artificially colored. Something just doesn't look right about it. Also to CCF

to the Community! I have never bought from GSC, but from what I have gathered from other members is that their photography and image editing has a tendency to portray the coin a nice as possible, making it difficult to grade without seeing it in person. If I were you, I would only pay FMV for the grade listed below what you would grade it. Based on the pictures alone, I would agree with IndianGoldEagle at AU50.

I've purchased a few of their lower costing lower graded coins, each of them was cleaned and retoned, I kept them all as I paid the correct amount for them, but I've not seen a single coin from them that looked as good in hand as they do in their ebay photos. Just my Two Cents worth. And not to knock GSC, they don't sell counterfeits, nor do they balk at a return if needed, I'd just say they bend the rules of acurate descriptions a bit. My dealings with them were always pleasent and fair.

I agree with what everyone has said about GSC. However, if the Great Southern attribution were taken off the photo, I would grade it a bit higher than the other folks here. I see only a touch of wear at the highest points. The strike is sharp (as typical for 1853). I'd go AU58 (and wouldn't be surprised to see a TPG go MS62 if there was luster). However, I'd question the color. The paleness of Miss Liberty's face echoed in the obverse fields, the darkness in the protected areas around the stars, as well as the very "antiqued" look of the reverse all make me think about cleaning/retoning.

I'll have to go with those that have experience with this seller. If they tend to doctor coins then this one most likely has received special treatment. I still like the coin, razor sharp detail, but guess it is one you have to buy for the right price as it won't TPG in the future.

It will TGP, it will go into a details holder most likely recolored.

It's a very nice coin. If you're OK with the possibility of cleaning and re-coloring, and if the price is right, go for it!

People buy from photos. GSC prices on high end coins are way over priced, and more than half of their high end coins that go on to be slabbed go into holders that say 'details'. buyer beware.
