After I had settled on a nice little extension of my 1800's typeset from my local on-line guy, I browsed the rest of his inventory to see if he had anything else that I wanted. I found this 1839 O Dime, perfect for my Seated coinage set, for $45. Seemed like a fair price and in my budget, so I bought it too. We met at his bank at 1:00pm to make the exchange. Here's the Dime: (His pictures are better that ones I could have taken) Something about a cobweb reverse, for what it's worth, a detail image he had up there, doesn't mean much to me: Edited by argentum 07/03/2013 02:28 am

On this particular coin I think the head damage would bother me. Damage as a whole usually doesn't bother me though. Other than that, nice coin!

I'm enjoying the stunning circulation cameo look. David

I'm not sure its an A-6/G-101/F-106a (Shattered Cobweb Reverse) but it does share the diagnostic of the DCR through the bow on the reverse; could be an earlier eroded die state of reverse E.2. Although it's of no interest to you, there is a subset of collectors that chase and study die variations and this series is especially exciting. If you wind up with something scarce it adds a premium to the value to that subset of collectors. Your dime is typical of New Orleans strikes with weakness on the shield. There seems to be a good amount of PMD on the obverse at the head but overall, the circulated look is quite appealing. $45 is an awesome buy IMO

@ds: Interesting. Do you have a link to some online material on the die variety stuff for my coin?
BTW folks, His grade on it was F15.

Argentum Nice pickup, really can't go wrong with Seated coinage, so much history there. Now you need to change your signature line to show 1839 as your oldest US coin.
