I have a 2010 10 Fils from Bahrain which is magnetic. All the websites I can find say it is brass, but mine clearly sticks to a magnet. Does anyone have any ideas why?

The logical answer is that sometime between 2004 and 2010, they started making them out of plated steel instead of brass. But I haven't found any documentation to support this hypothesis.

I just found a few more to examine and the 2009s are brass and the 2010s are magnetic. I think Brass plated Steel.

The magnetic 5 and 10 fils with new calligraphy were reported here and seem to have started in 2009 along with the other denominations.

Hello,

I am a bit confused, though I know nickel is a ferromagnetic substance, I can't stick any of the HK coins that are made with Cu-Ni with my newly bought neodymium. But this magnet can show the diamagnetism property on silver coin. Can it really stick nickel? Can anyone confirm or deny my query by your experience?

Alloys are not necessarily the logical summation of their elemental components. Pure nickel is ferromagnetic at room temperature, or at least, it can be. Copper is not. Mix them together and you don't automatically obtain a slightly magnetic alloy; the properties of the alloy are often completely different. Cupronickel coinage alloy (75:25) is neither ferromagnetic or paramagnetic at room temperature; it won't stick to a magnet.
