I just got this coin in a set today. Evidently the die had completely broken at this point, all that stuff you see where the letters should be? That's raised, not wear, lol. I know die's were bad on the 22-d's, but were very many of them this bad? I figured that this wasn't worth anything extra, but wanted to make sure (knowing my luck, probably makes it worth way less :) )

There's plenty of wear on that coin... looks like a combination of wear and PMD to me. But what do I know...could be die wear. with acloco...pic of the obverse, please.

Here's a picture of the observe. There are a lot of 'nicks' and stuff on the coin, but that stuff on the back isn't wear near the ears. The best way I can describe it is that it's a smooth transition from the wheat ear to raised area beside it, then a dip into the middle (where you see details) and then raised back up again to the wheat ear. The observe has the same sort of weak strike, just 'flat'. Look at the motto, date, etc, they're fine...it's just Lincoln himself that just didn't get pressed down for some reason.

I just figured out something...if you look at the back of the coin, you can see 'Lincoln' upside down, lol. Basically anywhere Lincoln's portrait was, there's detail, anywhere he isn't, there's not. That's the key.

Would actually be fun to send this in to several TPG's.....IF...you could video the expression on the grader's face when they take a look.

I found out that this is actually a ghost Lincoln Cent. Normally they aren't this severe though. I don't even know what this coin would grade without all the worn die issues, it probably would be a F-12 just judging from the motto and elements that are actually struck somewhat properly. Usually a G-4 1922-d barely has a date visible.
Rest in Peace

Taylor34, I see you were asking to see other examples of this from the other forum you posted this in. If you do a search on this forum for design transfer and look at the posts of wheat cents you will see other cents with this common type of die wear.

I searched, honestly there isn't much on Lincoln Wheat's, less than 10 posts I found. Seems like there are variations on it, it can be incuse or raised, and then the letters can either 'follow' the metal curves or sometimes the letters just get eaten entirely it appears (although that isn't possible). I am unclear why my letters do not follow the curves on the edges like other examples I found, but on the couple I saw where the letters get eaten it appeared that the impression of the ghost was more severe.
