I have this odd cent that appears to have some massive damage or somesuch on the front; the reverse looks normal. Is it called a delamination error? This is my wife's grandfathers but I'll dig it out to take better images. These are all older images from the last year or so for another board. Tank you.

What was a possible nice error piece, as there is evidence, has been obliterated by PMD. Just my 2c.

No, this actually was looked at by a reputable coin grading service and is surprisingly a legitimate mint error but I just can remember what it was labeled as. It has since been liberated from it's acrylic tomb...I dislike those things greatly.- lol

I agree w/ fioti... there appears to be PMD on the rim under Lincoln, and also what appear to be gouges in the area in question... There may have been a lamination issue, but also looks like something else happened to the coin, as it looks slightly out-of round on the right side. The letters in WE TRUST appear to be flattened.

That's not PMD, that's just a nice lamination error.

It's a legit delamination and I'll have to search for it and take some actual high resolution images of it. It's been years since I've laid eyes on it. Look at the rest of it where the coppers are separating around Lincoln's bust. If it was a PMD it wouldn't be showing all that stuff. Think what you want but it's legit. edit: Plus if it was a PMD then why would the design clearly show "through" Lincoln? Just a thought.

PMD looks like a pressed coin with damadge.

The difference in color indicates that the "peel" happened after the coin had been in circulation for some time. It is a very recent happening and may have been done intentionally. That in my opinion makes it PMD.

Its a lamination issue. Some peeling happened. The straight lines NE/SW are lamination lines. The other area may have peeled itself or had help during its life.

I just went to dig this out to do some better photography of both the obv. and rev. but curiously I cannot find it!? Please give me a day or so to rustle it up for you. Thanks.

In my opinion, it is a genuine error. For sure, it was struck through. The piece that it was struck through may have come from some other flake of material or it may have been a delaminated portion of metal from this coin. There are lamination cracks running through Lincoln's face, so my vote is for a struck through delaminated flake.
