I agree with PCGS's grade, AU55.
The op's coin is a pretty one :)
If you are just sending this one coin, I'd go the ANACS route otherwise, PCGS.

Ok I was getting my hopes up there that it was a medium letters but I'm happy with it either way. Ill probably send it to pcgs through my dealer or ill leave it raw I'm still undecided so far.

Your coin is very nice it's an N5....It's a textbook VF25 to Copper collectors and definitely not Au55 or XF. Personally I see no reason to put it in a coffin. It's rarity rating is 3 as of now. It's basically a $200 coin and I see that is what you paid so I would be super happy if I owned it... Nice!.... Good luck!

I don't see it getting more than a XF40 grade.

Also , the PCGS graded coin unfortunately is another poorly graded coin by a TPG. It is maybe a VG35 but most likely a VF30. As you can see it is worn where an AU coin should be VERY SHARP detail. An AU copper coin should be very sharp with only a hint of wear, hence AU...ALMOST ANCIRCULATED!! Not a coin that has been around the block!

Sorry Vermont But YEAH this coin is no more than VF30. Sorry Dude but these LC's go through my hands daily and I have to make judgements accordingly. The TPG's are just learning to grade LC's correctly by watching Heritage, EAC, etc auctions. In no way will a worn coin even get an XF grade.

I've been around old copper over 25 years too but that's cool, it's your opinion :)

I think the OP's coin is a very nice EF-40.

EF40 at least (my first thought was VF30/35) if it is indeed a N5, then make sure to pay for the designation on the holder, that will mean some serious $$$ in this grade over a non attributed one. The AU on ebay is nowhere near as nice looking as this coin, and the VF35 from the Heritage auction brought over $1700! Great pick! Don't know if it would bring more than $600 today though, still I'd imagine that a tad more than the OP paid for it. Might be worth putting it up in a major copper auction with a large firm to garner interest. I'm still very new to early coppers and am just getting my feet wet beyond my 2¢ series. Out of the three mentioned examples, my favorite is the HA.com VF35 then this one and last the ebay AU example. Interesting the best looking one is the lowest graded one the worst one is the highest graded one. I'm learning the in and outs of early coppers, been getting some great library additions in the area, next up, I need to join the EAC.

I have to go with EF40 and here's why. Really nice strike and color, however, I think the wear on the face and in the hair above the headband is a little too much for EF45. the reverse looks EF40 but I would grade the obverse at VF35. due the eye appeal being AVG+ I would give the edge to the upper end and call it EF40. I think a TPG may come in at VF35. It is the more common variety of Large Letters. I would think in the $150-180 retail range. I for one like my coins raw, I enjoy having them in an album where I can see them side by side and it allows me to take them out from time to time for closer looks, however, I think this is a personal preference

Too much wear on the top of the hair, I'm in the VF-35 camp.
