Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read my post. I am new to this forum and am looking for help in determining the round about date and identification of the man on a medallion that I purchased. I purchased the medallion from a gentleman who found it metal detecting near Fort Wayne in Detroit Michigan. The medallion appears to be in the shape of a Falcon with a bust on the front. The rear side of the medallion is blank and concave. I will be happy to post a photo of the back upon request. Many seaches and Google Image searches have turned up exactly nothing for me. I have spent endless hours just attempting to characterize the medalion's era and the man depicted on the coin. All searches have produced nothing so I thought, why not leaveit to the experts. I would certainly appreciate any information or assistance in my pursuit. Thank you in advance and Kind regards.......Jason

I moved your post to the section for identification of coins and medals. If you can post a picture of the back, cause this might indicate what it was in the past

Ok I just did a quick google search for the item and found one that is similar but is hand panted. But from what I found its a pin with the portrait of Napoleon (correct me if I'm wrong) and that's about all I found in a quick 5 min google search.

That would be, I think, Napoleon II, or the King of Rome, or the Duke of Parma, whatever you want to call him. In other words, Bonaparte's son by his second wife, the Archduchess Maria Louisa of Austria. That is what I thought the instant I saw this... badge, or whatever it is, & the painted version only suggests it the stronger.

Since it appears to be identified, I am moving this to the "Tokens, Medals, and other Exonumia" section.

And another:

Seems it's not actually Napoleon II, but the actress Sarah Bernhardt playing Napoleon II. Seems the eagle border on both this and Voshus007's brooch is a reference to Napoleon II's nickname, "L'Aiglet," or, "the Eaglet."

HOW IN THE HECK? lol Clearly I need to hone my Google searching skills. "Philadelphian", you nailed it. That is exactly what I have. Though the metal is weathered, if you look close enough you can see where the pin may have been soldered on. I used the terms falcon shaped, medal, medallion, etc... I never considered broch. I really can't thank all of you enough for taking the time to diagnose my item. I've been looking to get into metal detecting for quite some time when I bumped into a gentleman who detects frequently. He had a large collection of finds on Craigslist. I purchased this from him for 5 bucks which is about what it is worth. I just thought it was cool looking. I coach football and baseball for my 10 year old son so I really cannot drum up the time to head out into the woods ust yet but soon enough I will be walking around aimlessly looking for buried treasure. Thanks again all who helped me out here. Kind regards......J
