Thanks for all feed back. I will let you know what I paid once some opinions are in. Thanks for catching the title Edited by brenpickle 07/19/2013 11:07 pm

XF in my eyes. Probably cleaned at some point but with time should tone back nicely.

Education time!! How can you tell it has been cleaned? Is it due to the two different shades of brown. I am not very experienced with copper and normally avoid it due to not knowing how to distinguish original surfaces, but at the price I got this for I figured it was worth a shot basically in the dark. How much does the cleaning hurt the value?

I'm in at EF45. The color just looks off as to the cleaning, the price will be affected somewhat, thankfully it's not a bad or harsh cleaning. After you have seen thousands of IHCs and other coins the cleaned look just jumps out at you.
My friend Keith is that way with gold, he can see a large pile of Double Eagles, say 20-40 of them and just pick out the AU's, cleaned and counterfeit ones with a quick glance. He's spent years studying them, and has probably graded 10,000 of them or more at TPGs. Some people just get a "gut feeling" at first glance, they are usualy correct, not always, but more likely they are correct than not.
What does the cleaning do to the price? Some dealers would say it haves the value, but from this example I wouldn't think that it's particularly bad or damaging, so reduce the value around 15-25% It's also not a particularly tough date or coin to find in choice condition either, so it shouldn't devalue it much. IMO

You should be able to get one off ebay just like that for 5-10 bucks, possibly less.

I only paid $9, so I guess I didn't get hurt to bad. Maybe $4 or so to much, but I also got this https://goccf.com/t/154080 from the same person and got a great price on it.
