I've been looking for a 1796 Liberty Cap for quite a while. This S-89 just arrived and has been freed from the NGC slab. The reverse is slightly rotated. Opinions on grade are appreciated and I'll post the NGC grade in a day or so. Member ANA and EAC "You got to lose to know how to win". Dream On by Aerosmith

this coin is better than G6. too much hair and facial details and the reverse is much stronger than G. the face has some roundness left. surfaces not that bad and look original, except for the little rim issue at 2oclock reverse. I like this coin and would love to own it. this coin grades at VG8 and I think NGC could have a VG10 on it. really nice example. note the die crack between the I and T on reverse, this may be able to give the attribution. I dont have a book

I think NGC might have a F12 grade assigned to it, I think it's a really nice original problem free example that is a VG10 at least!

After looking again at this very nice LC, my opinion is VG10. But, I think realistically that because the surface of the coin is just a little rough (could be the enlarged photos) I would want to pay VG8 - JR EAC price that is listed at $1250 in Average condition. This coin if indeed is S-89 is somewhat rare....Really nice coin.

A 1796 LC needs a little more crisp detail than this coin has to grade Fine-12 for serious Copper collectors.

1893S I agree with you, but this is NGC grading (A TPG I think that is really, really, inconsistent when it comes to grading copper coins), they are not even close to EAC standards, which by the way are pretty interesting and not so easy to learn. I just picked up "Robinson's Copper Quotes" and am trying my best to understand the EAC standards through it. Very informative booklet.
