I want to store some of my higher value coins and some coins from mint boxes in my safe deposit box. For the one in original mint boxes, if left in them, they take up to much space. I want to remove from the box, then put the capsule in a ziplock bag about the size for one that a slab would fit. I could then mark it with an inventory number and other info. Does anyone knnow where I can purchase these type of ziplock bags, and do you know if they are safe for long term storage? I know food ones are ok, but I dont want them the size of sandwich bags! Also any other SD box storage ideas appriciated. Thanks

I personally would use and do use, 2x2 mylar flips. I not sure what kind of coins you are trying to store. However, keepingthem in the original packaging almost always add more value, so would keep them In those and get a bigger SD box. Just my 2¢

www.uline.com

If a 2 mil thick 2X3 would work they have a good deal here, $14 for a case of 1000. That's 1.4 cents apiece. 3X4 are $16 per thousand. These are polyethylene so they are inert.

If you want a little thicker they are here but they are more expensive. http://www.uline.com/BL_211/4-Mil-Reclosable-Bags

And here is their whole line of zip-lock bags http://www.uline.com/Grp_5/Poly-Bags-Reclosable
Rest in Peace

What a good idea! Give up physical possession of your coins and, possibly, access.

Most of my coins of any value are in Albums. Whitman Classic. Then in Zip Lock Plastic Bags. Those are all in saf deposit boxes and have been for a long, long time.

I've had my coins in a SDB for over 7 years. No way I am keeping my more expensive ones in the house even with ADT and lots of guns.
One tip I can tell you, get some moisture absorb packs.
No problems out here in Ca. with humidity but if your in the Midwest, do it.

Not sure about the entire World but every bank I've ever been in is A/C'd. Not much need to do more.

thanks everyone for the input and links. to give you an idea of a few thinks I was thinking of doing...
Take coins from 1950-64 proof sets out of their boxes/envelopes putting each one in a seperate ziplock, with any info I wasnted to label on it, with a inventory# to match a catalog list and the original box/envelope. This info more for my wife & son should I die, they would be able to reassemble the set if they wanted to sell it.
Also removing coind from anniversry silver eagle sets and do similar. I have 3-5 dets of each, and take up to much room in original packaging to store in SDBox. Also putting in some other high value coins.....
again thanks

Actually - banks do not always keep the A/C on....so...humidity can and will change.

Also the A/C usully keeps the humidity at a level good for paper documents which need some humidity to keep from drying out and becoming brittle. Coins do better at a lower humidity level. or coins humidity is an enemy, the water being needed for the reactions that cause toning/tarnish and eventually corrosion. For coins the drier the better any why microenvironments created with ziplocks and silica gel work so well. It makes it easy to create a very low humidity environment.

Went to my box this morning to get one I just sold on ebay.
They always have the A/C on at my branch..I'm not worried about A/C hurting anything in my box. Just makes it comfortable for me :-)
