It seems this Kennedy half silver dollar has the reverse of the Accented Hair Variety (star arms cut the arrow / straight G) and not the obverse of the Accented Hair Variety. (no accented hair) Do you agree? Are these more rare than the Accented Hair Variety? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** Edited by GLss 07/31/2013 6:40 pm

Not to be the bearer of bad news.. but.... It's a 1964D so it's not a proof, therefore cannot be a accented hair. Also to me the rays dont look broken and the FG looks flared not straight, And on the obverse the "I" in liberty looks like the regular strike, as does the reverse. IMHO at least.. Sorry. . Straight G (Accented) Flared G (Normal) Broken rays (Accented) Normal rays (Normal) Truncated Serif (Accented) Normal Serif (Normal)

Yea it doesn't seem proof. Also the obverse is not that of the accented hair. But I am quite positive the reverse is that of the accented half dollar. Maybe I will add a zoomed in photo.

I see what you're seeing with the initials. The "g" looks like the straight "g". I tried to study the rays but it gave me a headache. I'll come back and take another look. Meanwhile....

btw I came to that conclusion after I compared it with non accented half dollar coins. (same year) they clearly showed non broken arrows.

5 yrs. ago I was a lot more winded They used different reverse dies on the 64's But only one (type) particular pair for the accented hair proof. Pair meaning the accented hair obv. with that one only reverse type. Never heard of any one coin ever found that had the accented hair obv. with the other type rev. That would be a real keeper if so.

Oh, answer to your original question.
It is a master die variation and is used on multiple working dies. It was used for circulation strikes early in the year, but mainly at Denver.

This thread looks a bit dated. Not sure if it's still active. I'm new here. Where's the best forum to post what I think is a 64 Kennedy half transitional for verification? Thanks!
