I bought this a few years ago as a plain 1869. Started putting together the Dansco 7101 and was dreading laying out the cash for the 69/9. Checked it and I believe it is possibly a 69/9. What do y'all think? Also, are there more than one variety of over date or recut date for the year. If so, which one is the dansco/redbook generally referring to?

I'm glad when I can put my Snow IHC variety guides to use. The RPD on the 9 is obvious.
For 1869, I first thought this was the S-4, but the position of the date to the bust is incorrect.
However, the date position looks like a match for the Snow-3, a more popular RPD that was once thought to be an 1869/8. The S-3 is an 1869/69--and I think I see repunching on the 6 too.

The Snow Attribution Guides are spiral-bound, large-format books with a picture of each variety--they're very useful. Here's the picture in the book for the Snow-3 1869/69.

The books have a lot more information including a general estimate of value. You can purchase the guides here.

Hello,

One of the more helpful free guides to clarifying variety and errors in foreign coins is:

http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/Wo...e-Guide.aspx

I was wondering if similar all-encompassing type web sites exist that show photos and clarify errors/varieties for all denominations of 'US' coins.

Any information about the existence and location of a web site like this would be greatly appreciated.

The above referenced NGC web site for ALL foreign(non US) coins even provides average retail prices adjusted daily for silver and gold fluctuations.

thanks,
mdpmedia

PS: I am running out of space for storing another large and thick text book on coins etc.

I do know Rick sells an online copy of his attribution guides, you can get each year as needed or buy the entire series, a great reference! Get it directly from the original source here:

Oh yeah...I remember he's selling them as "online versions" too--by year, and in total the digital versions cost more--despite reduced overhead?
Just putting that out there--not faulting Rick Snow for offering them by year, because to be honest some years are pretty dull as varieties go.
