Looking through some rolls and found this die chip. I am pretty sure it is fairly common but I can't recall an entire "0" chipping off. Also I don't think this is a LDS coin which I found odd. It looks like MDS.

Is it common for a MDS coin to have a chip like this?
Do they just scrap the die once this happens?

Chips can happen at any die state. I've seen some of the 1960-D Small date coin in EDS that had die chips on them. That was common for them and they were replaced with the large date that year. So anything is possible. Post breaks off the the center is filled. The mint doesn't retire them for this.

Ahhh...so that's why there was a large and small date for 1960. Learn something new everyday. Thanks for the info!
