I know a guy who, for whatever his reasons, wants to get his hands on as many dateless Buffalo nickels as he can. About a year ago I traded him 2000 dateless for some Seated halves - and posted photos on this forum. We just did it again...this time for 3000 dateless, Philly mint Buffalo nickels.

Shown below are the 6 halves I received for the nickels. Not sure if it'll go down as the greatest coin trade ever, but I'm pleased with it....

Man, should've gone face-value-for-face-value â€" 300 half-dollars for 3000 nickels!

Looks like a good trade to me. That 1861-O is especially interesting to me. I think you did well, and I'm with Moe, I'm a big fan of any Seated Liberty Half.

Just think, that '61-O could be the very struck one made before the Confederate reverse die was finished... at which point they realized they only had six blanks left!
Rest in Peace

I would make that trade every time. Dateless Philly Buffalo nickles are all too common and probably not much of a market for acid dates. Congrats!

I like the circulated cameo look of that 1857-O.

Hard to tell for sure from the pictures, but I think the 1861-O was minted before the confederates took over the New Orleans mint. This might help to ID it:

Nice trade IMO!

Its either a Louisianna state issue or a US government issue, I didn't see either of the markers for the Confederate dies.

Yeah...it's not going to be from a Confederate die. The guy I traded with knows enough about these halves not to send me one of those.
