I couldn't resist rescuing this one from the melt bucket. I paid $18 for it, and I do think that this coin has had some help getting this worn. I didn't buy it hoping for a lowball grade. It makes me want to put together a well-worn 7070 album now.

I rather like that one. Certainly worthy of a P-01 grade.

Nope, this one won't grade. Not that I'd refuse it.

This is Heritage's take: "•Poor (PO-1): Barely recognizable. Large parts of the design will be completely flat. The date may be barely visible or completely missing. Also known as Basal State."
Disclaimer: I dont think there's ever been an ungraded PO-1 in a Heritage auction.

Looks like it might be a 64 that didn't get melted down.

Even if all you can sell it for is spot price for the weight, silver has been going up the past few days. Hang on to this coin, but don't melt it.

LoL not the greatest buy in the world but I would have paid $18 for it to. I can't believe they charge sales tax on bullion in your state.

Very nice scotty11. Appreciate you rescuing this one. I'll admit to a fetish ... I have four of those ... purchased around melt price from various dealer 'cull bins'. I enjoy those truly circulated Peace dollars. A nuanced clarification on the definition of a certifiable PO01 .... For series with multiple date/mm available; the coin must be identifiable by a visible date and mintmark. For one year type coins ... the date and/or mintmark need not be present. Sooo ... had this coin been a 1921 Peace dollar (it is not BTW) ... it could be certified PO01 as the 1921 was a 1 year type (high relief) and the distinguishing characteristic would still be identifiable. Applied to my favorite series ... classic silver commemorative ... a basal state Hawaiian could be certified PO01 while a basal state Oregon Trail could not. David
