Not sure the best section to post this...

Yesterday I was talking to a guy that got two fake $20.00 in change at the Waffle House (I 10 and Avalon)

Today I was at my bank and asked them if they had seen any.
The teller pulled one out of her drawer.

It look pretty close .. But you could tell it was fake
The color was a little off
The water mark was more of a blur
It felt different
No red and blue threads in the paper

It was a New York FRB (B) can't remember the S/N
I sort of ..want to go back and see if they would let me take a picture.

Are any other members seeing these in their area?

Be careful at the bank. Most tellers have to pay for them if they get stuck with them so they will give them right back out if they notice them in their drawer.

Huh? Never heard of that. I can't understand why a bank would adopt a policy that would encourage felonious activities by their tellers.

That said, a bank manager did tell me once that he's heard of it happening.....because a teller was surreptitiously bringing them into work and swapping them out for real bills.

I think you are right there, and I did check everyone they gave me.

On this one they did say they caught it .. coming in.

There was some paper work with the bill, like they are going to turn it into someone.

It is because the bank does not want tellers to accept them in the first place. They are not directly encouraging them to commit any crime. However, if a teller is taking in counterfeits and letting them go out back out, then they should either get more training or a pink slip.

Aye tellers in virtually all banks are responsible for all deficiencies in their tills at the end of the day. This means that the banks absorb counterfeits by taking it out of teller paychecks.

I was once passed a fake Sacagawea dollar by a teller at my local Federal Credit Union. She was *terrified* when I told her it was fake, but then relieved when I re-assured her that it was OK as I collect them. :-)

Speaking of which: I'm actually interested in obtaining one of these for The Black Cabinet as I want to soon expand it to include counterfeit currency and identification keys (and test out my CNC paper cutter's abilities for punching out "COPY" in little dots :-) ).

If anyone has one (and only one, I need no more) that they wish to exchange for a real $20 bill, please message me.

Any bill I get over a $1 I press my index fingernail against my thumb to see if it pierces the paper. If so the bill is fake and printed on common copy paper.

On bills $5 or more I hold up to the light for the security thread.

I remember in the old days when I used to be able to pull the security thread out with a tweezers Can't do it with the modern bills.

I worked as a bank teller for several months. We handled lots of cash and it was very rare to see a counterfeit. We were encouraged to notify the manager if we did find one, and it definitely never came out of our pay.

I do not believe that you have to pay for the fake $20's as a teller...
