It is ugly. But, still a nice old copper.

Ugly. I sold some large cents that I no longer wanted. I sold them as a lot and someone did buy them. At one point I was literally thinking of throwing a few in the trash...

I bought another damaged one to go with it. It's an 1854 with really good details as well, some of the stars even have the lines on them. Yes it has damage (corrosion?) AND it's been cleaned, but it was only 0.99 + $1.38 shipping, so...I got it to put along side the 1828 one.

I used to be turned off by problem coins like these, but as I've matured I find them to be more endearing than a common high grade problem-free coin. I saw an 1800 large cent at the pawn shop the other day that had so many rim dings the poor thing looked like an octogon. It was marked at $25. I've been thinking about it all week. I may go back and offer the guy $10. As someone above said, there's no such thing as bad old copper. Once your coin is pushing 200 years, it's just a really cool piece of history regardless of condition!

I agree chetzler, however these IS a limit, haha. It can't be too far gone, I think.
