Hello everyone, I have a 1861 Liberty head double eagle $20 gold coin and would like for you guys to tell me what you think the grade and value is. Is it worth turning it in to certify?

XF-AU details, cleaned. Did you weigh it and make sure it's the proper weight?

Not really surprising that a retail shop is trying to lowball

A Type One in EF details grade should pull at least $1500 right now.

I'd go VF/EF on this one and value around $1450-1475
I wouldn't say the shop is lowballing too bad, most dealers have to put out the cash, and with a holiday weekend coming up they probably won't sell it until Tuesday or Wednesday if that is there plan. Most shops I know need to make $100.00 on a coin like this to justify the cash outlay, cover overhead, like lights, rent, salaries, insurance, alarm bills, phone, etc.
I think with the Syria situation ongoing, I'd hold it for a week or two if you can, gold will probably go up. I would not waste the money to certify it.
