I keep telling myself I have enough State/Terr/ATB quarter sets .. but then another one comes along. I was in a coin shops today and several modern Dansco albums came in. They were all in good condition, but not complete. I have in my collection all the same albums, but mine are complete, so I was not sure I wanted any of them. The owner knew I liked State Quarters, so I was offered the two set album, with coins, for $30.00. They are Dansco 8143 and 8144. They came with 45 clad proofs and 20 P/D BU coins. I have two of these sets complete, but I feel I can put this set together for less then they sell for. I have all the P/D quarters for the set, that I have only face value for each quarter. In the past couple months I have been buying silver proof quarters at spot silver .. just to put silver away. So I have seven of the 10 years needed. Tonight ..or tomorrow I will put what coins I have into the album. It will leave me with the 1999, 2000 and 2008 silver proof quarters. Also the 2008 clad proof quarters I will need to pick up. I have a extra set of silver 1999, but they are slabbed and I don't really want to break them out When done it will look like this. (pictures of my other set) When I bought them, I was thinking I could put this set together and put them for sale (consignment) at a LCS. But for some reason I like State Quarters so I fear I will want to keep them. I know some CCF member do not like modern coins .. But how could I say no .. two like new Dansco albums with $16.25 in coins for $30. Plus after putting the coin I have in the album, I will only need 20 coins to complete the set. This is getting crazy .. now I am thinking on my next Wizard order I might order another set of ATB albums. I guess I wonder if others think I crazy for doing this? Edited by GR58 08/27/2013 9:04 pm

I too have an excess of Washinton Quarter Albums. All are Whitman Albums. HOWEVER, all mine stop at the end of the State Quarters. I lost interest in every one of them after that. I'll stick to Barber Head, Standing Liberty, etc. Quarters.

You sound a little concerned what others will think of you. DON'T! If you like it, then you are collecting the right thing for you. And no one here can or will think otherwise. Maybe there are better financial investments, but that's not collecting. That's investing. If it makes you feel any better, I have nine sets of Kennedy half dollars and four sets of State Quarters.

Is someone doesn't like State Quarters oh well, if you like them thats all it matters. For what its worth I think you got a really good deal, it would cost you more than 30 just to buy the albums most of the time.

But I do like to hear different opinions. Quote:Is someone doesn't like State Quarters oh well, if you like them thats all it matters. I agree. Everyone should collect what they like. At a few of my local coins shops it is sort of a running joke, on how much I like State Quarters. If I see a good deal on them .. which most of the time is face or spot, I always want to buy them. I do purchase many other series. When I see coins, that I like, I try to get them. I buy ancients, early U.S. copper .. small gold, Canadian, Great Britain coins also examples of world silver coins that I don't have.

Okay, that's pretty cool. I agree with JWGuts -- I don't believe you have to justify any theme to a collection. If you like it, that's cool. But I am reminded of a saying from a friend: "Quantity has a quality all its own." I think a complete set of Statehood Quarters is just ok, but 4 or 5 of them in Danscos is really neat. By the way, my sister-in-law commented that she liked my 7143 album (Statehood quarters, business strike only) so this year I upgraded to the 8143/8144/8145 (Statehood w/ proof Vol. I & II and DC& Territories w/ proof) and have the completed 7143 set aside to give her for Christmas.

I do want to say that I think these are good sets .. if you are putting high grade coins into them. I have spent many hours sorting though BU rolls of State Quarters, only keeping the best ones for my collection. I will buy mint sets, if they have high grade quarters, just to break open and put into my roll boxes.

I know it is a OCD thing... but last night I counted my Washington quarter albums, with the two I picked up yesterday ... that brings me to 13 ... and as I was putting some Ike's I bought yesterday ... I had a stack of 8 BU's and 5 proofs .. again 13 .. for some reason I try to avoid 13 ... I wish this year would get over ... I am ready for 2014 .... Now I will have to take a drive to Pensacola this morning see if they have a Washington Dansco I want .. so I will not have 13 ... and of course pick up some more Ike's. This coin collecting really is a sickness .. or maybe it is just me.

I'm 24 away from a complete set of silver proofs, NGC slabbed though so no album. The albums came into the Milton shop. I have been putting Washington State Quarters away since they first came out in 1999 ... I can remember getting my first roll of Delaware quarters from the bank. Interesting that you are putting together a set of slabbed silver State Quarters .. I have not tried to do that yet but I do have some ... both silver and clad. I like using slabbed MS quarters ... to compare grades .. when I am sorting quarters. Don't forget to post some pictures of your slabbed set when you get done ... or even almost done ...

GR58, I think its awesome. Im also planning to start a new set, which really is only for the proofs and silver proofs, but I may go ahead and get the PDSS album and do the whole deal together.
Im with basebal21... if you like it, thats all that matters.
Personally, I am a huge fan of all the new quarters!

There are worse things you could collect, of that I am certain. I really like the look of your albums. You enjoy them and do a good job assembling them, so I see no reason to stop, even if it means having many duplicates.

The State Quarters are my favorite ultra modern series. I've got the dansco done but still working on a pcgs silver slabbed set with the flag labels. If I didnt constantly get so distracted by other stuff Id probably of completed it by now
