It was a slow day at work as far as metal went, and I almost missed this one too since it wasn't in my own drawer. A coworker was counting down for the end of her shift and asked me if I needed any $5s for my register, I told her no but happened to glance down at the stack of bills in her hand, on top of all the $5s and a few other singles was...

Really Cool to see a web note. Never heard of it in my entire banknote collecting career. Must be very lucky to have it.

Wow, I'm shocked that people would find value in this. (I read the explanation) But hey to each his own...

Nice find of a quickly disappearing USA note. Quote: I'm shocked that people would find value in this. Politely suggest Bababooey that you expand your collecting horizons to become inclusive of all specialties encountered in the wonderful world of coin/note collecting on public display here at the CCF. I readily imagine that the new owner of this note is also not much impressed by your series of circulated Liberty "V" nickels for which you appear to be so proud of ... he/she might as well be 'shocked' that you enjoy them. The goal of the CCF is education ... and to that end open sharing amongst all should be received IMHO as positive and supportive. Hoping you find your way to support that objective. David

I think it is very interesting that you found this note in circulation ... and that it is such good shape. Congrats on a good find I looked for a year or two for one of these. I ended up buying one online.

Whats the value on this?
So since the nameplate is missing the letter, it makes it a web note?
Interesting! I didn't know about this, thanks for the link Dasalo :)

Bababooey, I'm shocked that your shocked. But then your probably more into those Cold Round, Metallic things and don't understand the warmth of something like this. And in such nice condition for it to be found in circulation.
Dasalo, I see it's a 1988-A issue, I may have a extra 1993 issue in about the same condition as your 1988-A, it's yours if your trying to put together a collection of the three web notes that were issued, then all you will need would be the 1995 issue and your web note collection would be complete. It's not for sale but will trade it for another $ 1.00 note of = value to help you complete your web note collection. Let me know if your interested. Bill Collector

I'm not sure if anyone will find this little tid-bit of info interesting or not, but since the Web-Fed notes may differ from the sheet-fed notes, and lack the Plate Position on the Webs, the 3rd printing was done on the COPE equipment and it's possible to determine the plate position from the serial number.
This note (serial number 08864889) was printed in the E2 position and would show this on the regular non-web issue.
I have a few 3rd print on reverse errors and have just completed a chart of each note in COPE design and listing the serial numbers of the sheets other 31 serial numbers. One of the errors is on a Web note and will be posting pictures with the serial numbers on CCF shortly in my years long quest of tracking the other error notes from this sheet.

I remember when these things first came out back in the late 1980's. A lot of them had very poor printing and almost looked washed out and counterfeit. You could lay out 10 notes side by side and spot any WEB notes in the group from 10 feet away. Washington was either pale as a ghost or over inked with a California tan. I haven't found one in circulation in probably 7 or 8 years. Nice find!
