Hi this is my first time posting on this forum and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this 1 dollar coin. It has a raised rim on the reverse and obverse, another note is that the reeding is minimal even for such a worn coin. Would this be a mint error or forgery? Thanks in advance.

Looks like it might be a Dryer Coin.

A Dryer Coin is a coin that has put through a washing dryer (or had a similar wild ride) that has worn it out.

There are two ways to make an edge to a coin like this. There's the accidental way, when a coin gets stuck in an industrial clothes drier for a long time, rolling around and around and around, deforming the edge like this.

Second, is when someone who is really, really bored and has a lot of spare time on their hands decides to make one. This effect is called "spooning", and to do it you basically need to do the same thing that getting stuck in a dryer would do: tap or roll the edge of the coin repeatedly. Some people with way more patience than I have make rings out of silver coins by spooning the edges up and then punching out the centre disk.

I have seen lots of 1984's & 85's similar to yours, and had thought about asking the question, earlier, bit dismissed it as I came across more of them. The rim seems a lot "prouder"" with these than other years. Check the condition of the rim. Is it damaged or worn, or flat?. How does it compare with other $1.00 rims? What does the reeding look like?
