Cheers Jeff, the thread you sent . I could wish it was in the same calibre as that one, but if you are right and it is a RamStrike . I don't have this Varity yet! I think we still need a couple more input's before I can class this coin as a Ramstrike & not a washing machine . Thanks jpl.. Ps The thread I read was from FNQ!!

Thanks Appleangle, I don't often clean coins, only Face Value one's. Which now I can ask a dumb question, can I clean a Ramstrike coin if it is only worth Face Value? jpl..

DONT CLEAN IT!
Its a ramstrike and its definitely worth more than face value. Having said that though its not the most obvious ramstrike and wont bring the same sort of money as one with fully raised teeth and sell for about the $200-300 mark lately.
I would acetone it and see if that removes some of the gunk.

Thanks Enworb , I shall go with your instinct and will leave it as it is then! If I can make 50ct's on top of the face value that's a $1 ( But I think I will keep this one as is, being my only ) .Cheers Boss, jpl..

Great find. Never mind the gunk, it's a pretty rare find regardless of condition.

I would only be guessing but I wouldn't be surprised to see it get $50 on ebay. What do other people reckon?

I'm curious ..... how can the corners that are normally pointy be raised on both sides? Shouldn't the raised part be in the flat section and not the corner? Should it be raised on both sides too? Also the border rim why is it covered by the strike at the corners? Don't worry JPL, I'm usually wrong and will probably get straightened out shortly .... yours appears similar to the one found by FNQ recently, a bit different to Enworb's 1983 and the one in the link above though.

I don't know much about ramstrike 50c, but I am a little skeptical of this coin. I am going to do some reading on these.

Ok. I went and looked at the article linked to, and it still seems to me like the coin in this thread is not a ramstrike. Compare the coin in the article and the one in this thread. The article coin has the "teeth" in line with the "flats" of the design (just like larena pointed out). The coin in this thread appears to just have the original corners bashed in a bit... What do others think of this observation?

I suppose a full ramstrike with teeth would have about a 15 degree rotation. This one may have only been 5 or 10 degrees rotated and hence not as pronounced.

" I suppose a full ramstrike with teeth would have about a 15 degree rotation. This one may have only been 5 or 10 degrees rotated and hence not as pronounced." In that case wouldnt the raised parts be rotated from the original points of the sides? On this coin the raised parts look perfectly centered on the original points of the coin.
