Is a hanging 3 rare on the 1953 SF 1 cent?
What is the value of this...and your opinion on a grade would be most appreciated. Thanks

Hi rmc

While I wouldn't call a hanging 3 1953 SF rare, it's certainly tougher to find than the NSF. There are a few varieties of the hanging 3 SF, including a double hanger and differing sizes of the "half moon" clash off the left side of the right leaf. If you're lucky you can also find one with a die crack on the obverse, showing it to be a later die strike.

You don`t see MS copies of this coin offered too often. I would certainly want to buy it.

Thanks Smallcentguy. I've been hunting for this for along time for my personal collection. Any idea what the value of this may be?

There was an ICCS certified AU coin on ebay offered a while back for around $40.

I would say yours would command a decent premium, at least full CCN Trend price for the grade, being a die clash.

I sold an ICCS MS-63 Red at full (CCN) Trends at the last Coin Expo (June of this year). The 1953 Shoulder Fold cent tends to be prone to having a wine-coloured toning, good 90% or better red examples are actually very hard to find.

This one was an 8-year hunt for me (but not a die clash): https://goccf.com/t/122427

Thanks SPP...what would you say the grade of this is? I'm guessing it would be worth while to send it to ICCS

I would give it a MS-63, and I agree with what SPP said.
