Hey man I think it's great you're working and saving your money for coins. I wish I would've thought about coins back when I was younger. Ha I had to work during the summer to buy school clothes.

You paid $9.26 too much, it's value is 1 cent.

Ok, please back this statement up.

If it's value is one cent, then I should to be able to buy these for one cent somewhere. Please show me where I can buy large cents in any condition for one cent.

PawnS, I know I wish I could just get a full set of these for like $10! I don't know about 1 cent, but I think that it'll be worth it in the very VERY long run. Just a thought.

I believe this is an N9, similar to this one --> 121157757304 It has a rarity of R2. You paid a reasonable price for an N9.

I like it! Hope it sparks the copper bug in you. While it is ugly, corroded and damaged it may just inspire you to look into old coppers. A fine buy for 10 bucks. imho.

This hobby we all enjoy is as much about education as collecting. I say put that LC in a 2x2 and mark on the back the date and purchase price and tuck it away. Your next purchase will be a little bit(maybe a lot) better than this one simply because you posted it here and got feedback from many members. $9.27 is a small price tag for education these days. Enjoy the hunt.

Us copper nuts keep saying that all old copper is beautiful. I suggest you hold it in hand and think about the history of what was going on in 1817. You have a 196 year old piece of history admittedly pretty beat up, but not so bad for $9.

There's also a clear message from the members about buying better coins in that price range. Some of the later date large cents are plentiful and inexpensive in better grade.

As you can see - advice comes from many different perspectives so it's great that everyone is offering their opinion and you can choose how to proceed. Good luck!

i have the very first coin I purchased when I was 13. I've learned a lot since them and the bang for my buck has greatly improved as has my collection. I wish you the same.
