Thank You Robbudo! I want to make some more $$$ to buy more coins, but I don't have too much of a chance and I don't get an allowance, but this is how I see it: If you want something so bad you would kill for it, then go out and find some work! Or go out with my metal detector and try to find coins.. Which I hope I do!

All good advice has been given, some just haven't been very gentile about it. I too still have the first Large cent I ever purchased over 30 years ago and like it from the memory I have attached to it and the way it made me feel to hold it. It was an 1808 classic head in AG. I suggest buying low grade, but problem free to start out with. No shame in owning an evenly worn honest G-VG large cent at the right price. Good luck finding nectar in the hole baby!

CoinCollector2000 just put 1893S on Ignore. He is about as rude and juvenile a member as you'll find. He does this in just about every thread he posts in. I really wish the moderators would do something about him.

The coin is terrific if it's something you wanted in your collection. It doesn't matter what 1893S or anyone else thinks about the coin. Congrats on picking up a nearly 200 year old coin!

That's what I hope, it was my Grandmother's Grandmother's house! It's caved in so I can't get inside, but I'll try, but I'm an idiot sometimes, like the the time I knicked the crap out of a penny with my shovel, at least it was a brand new one. I have to clear out the overgrowth after the weather cools down and all the snakes go away, but I'm hoping I find some OLD coins! My oldest coin so far is a 1964 penny, but I've only been detecting for about 3 months now, and I've found $2+ so I think I'm doing awesome! Maybe my finds will serve as a coin fund!

Regardless f the condition I think it wasn't a bad purchase, would I buy it? Probably not at $10.00 but all day long at $3-5.00 these damaged coins still have value and are very cool - they have history, and who knows sometimes one gets lucky and buys a pig in a poke with a rare variety, keep studying and learning all you can about these early coppers.

Well said, westcoin.

CC2000 - Please always feel welcome to tell us about your ideas, purchases, questions, anything. We're here to help and support.

And anyone here who hasn't bought something for a bit more than it's "worth" because they love it is not a true collector!

ProfLiz, I would hug you right now! I couldn't have said it any better! I love collecting and I had a little money so I went out and bought it! I will keep you updated! Yeah but my oldest coin before this was a 1872 3 cent piece in about fine/vf condition I guess, so I made an enormous improvement of 61 years on my oldest coin so I thought it was neat to get it for $10! I'll have to show of the 3 cent piece! If you would like me to.
