Hi All,

Found this 1989 penny and there is a fairly large crack on the reverse and also on the reverse rim. I don't mean die crack, I mean actual crack. I suspect that it is just plain damage, but I am not sure so I'd like your opinions.

Looks like some very nasty corrosion that ate away the copper and exposed the zinc.

that's exactly what it is. the zinc got exposed to air and it started to eat away at the copper give it a bit more time and you will have a hollow shell of copper.
