I think 10-12. Over the years I just checked change casually. I'm now trying to take a more proactive approach. I'd like to search through rolls but have a feeling it's going to be tough with nice weather now.

I was 11, in 6th grade, wandering on the playground during recess and I was walking on the edge of the curb and spotted a dime in the road. I ran out to grab it of course, and when I looked at it it was a 1900 Barber in VG. I was hooked from then on. My dad worked for the village DPW and he was on garbage duty, not long after I found the dime, he found an old chair that someone through away and when he picked it up the bottom was filled with old Walking halves. He gave them to me. :) Soon after I was looking through change, picking out the silver coins and the wheaties. My mom was really great and started buying me junk coins from a "popular" mail order company in NH. But I loved them anyway. :) ahhhhh... memories.

Right after I sold my grandfather's Buffalo nickel collection, about 4 months ago. Been kicking myself ever since, but I never would have gotten into it if I didn't sell it.

I collected as a kid, but really didn't start getting interested again as an adult until 1996 when I was 37. My interest waned the last few years as I ramped up my other hobby, but the bug for coins has returned the past few months which is the reason I joined this forum.

I was 6 years old when I found two boxes with coins in my grandfather's drawer. That's it.

Started collecting when I was 10 (I'm 33 now). A friend of my father's showed me his collection, and I was so fascinated he gave me his 1983 RedBook. I was hooked from there. I worked for an allowance on my Great Grandmother's ranch. Almost every dollar I made I spent on coins because that's all I was interested in. Later my collection got stolen and I stopped for years. I just finally started again less than a year ago, and I don't even remember what got me started. I have learned a LOT in a short time, much of it credited to this website. And I still feel like I've barely scratched the surface. In fact, after I'm out of the Army I know I would like to be doing something with coins. Maybe own a coin shop, or being doing anything that involves coins. I just feel like the amount of knowledge I need to have is overwhelming. That's why I'm thinking 15 years down the road or so. Aside from 15 years experience as a collector, my Army retirement and a VA small business loan will be a big help.
