melt value....at best they are in the XF range, but pictures are terrible, and there probably was an attempt to clean in the past.

I agree however the 35 & 47 would still be worth a bit more than melt. You can do much better IMO.

1937 -- polished. I would not recommend buying that unless collecting for melt value.

Any hints on how to identify polished or cleaned on silver coins from a picture?

In the early years ie: 35,36,37,38,and 39 the dollars had a frosty non-shiny surface.

Whenever you see frostiness (ie"original luster) 'in the above years' at the rim to and around the letters and details (ie: protected areas)...and then shiny everywhere else, it's probably been polished ...and of much lesser value.

I think that the Charlton catalogues explain this and other/later die info in great detail.
