Most would cost less than $10, the 09 might go for $20. 10 coins for about $100 and you no worries about not affording the 1909-s! Report this Post to the Staff

It's in your budget, has coins 130 years old, contains a few easily obtainable keys and is very much under the radar price wise. Building the set with problem free circ-cam pieces in VF or so would create one sweet looking blue Whitman. These coins WERE the workhorse of their era, it's not too far off base to give them the relative purchasing power of one dollar (today) during their era. Fascinating variations would be a lowball set, PO01 to AG3, extensively worn Liberty nickels have the odd trait, unlike buffaloes, of retaining a vestige of date despite incredible wear. I have a folder started, a pleasant diversion from the world of four figure Vermonts! Report this Post to the Staff

Surprized that Lincoln Cents is not on your present list. I thought everyone on Earth collects those. And possibly a few outside of Earth. Report this Post to the Staff
CoinCollector2012 Pillar of the Community United States 8137 Posts	Posted 10/03/2013 6:35 pm I have never found Lincoln Cents to be that interesting of a set, both design wise and budget wise . I already have a copy of the Red Book and have spent hours looking through it. I plan on doing V nickels when I complete my set of Ikes (2 to go) and the idea of a 20th century set of Indians also cought my eye. I will have some tough decisions to make soon. Elbesaar Rest in Peace United States 699 Posts	Posted 10/08/2013 12:33 pm I wanted to start a new collection, trying to wean myself off of Barbers ( didn't work ) but I bough a Mercury dime Dansco album. I decided never to attempt getting a 16-D in any grade - but the rest of the set would be in nicely defined original VF 30-35 and the dates after 1931 would be XF/AU ... Nothing screaming white luster because I didn't want to over power the VF's. All the coins have a nice light to medium grey patina. Hating holes in an album, I broke down and bought a duplicate 16-S in 45 for the Denver Hole. I'm not selling the set, and when it does get sold ( once I pass from Shady Acres ) the first thing any knowledgable dealer will do is examine the 16 Denver Hole. There is no space for the 42/1 Overdate, so you don't have to concern yourself with that either. The tough one are 21 Phila and Denver - but you can find a decent example for under $100. The 25-D is also a very difficult coin to locate - much more so than the 26-S. I ended up buying my 25-D in an ANACS 35 holder. and cracked it out. I enjoyed assembling this set and I assume you will as well. Report this Post to the Staff

I have seen AU 49-s as low as 8.00. The one I am having the most trouble with is the 96 -w, that is mostly just to me not liking to purchase on line, I'll break down eventually.
