Here's the other $1000 I sent out to get graded by PCGS Currency. This ones a 1934 A Chicago. The top right corner is missing, it appears as though the bill was miscut.
What do you folks think she'll come back as?

To be honest it doesn't look that much better than the first one, but with pcgs you never know.

It looks EF-40 but you say the corner has a tear and I'm not sure how that will effect the grade.

I personally don't see a missing top right corner. The top left corner has issues though. Odds are it gets 35 apparent if it has a missing corner as you indicated. It is definitely worth more raw than graded.

That's a very smart collector making that comment.

I agree,
And I was tempted to ask why grade it but backed off.

Having a note like that graded will only cost money that could be better spent on other notes. But I also realize that for some reason guys just want there notes in a fancy holder no matter what the cost.

It's a low grade Very Fine or even Fine, due to the large amount of creasing and overall yuckiness. With the tear it should come as F-15 details, at the best VF-20 details.

Papermoney, I have to strongly disagree with you on the grade. The note has very strong paper and great color. It probably only has 2-3 distinct folds, they are just heavy and distracting. Fine 15 and VF 20 notes would have much weaker paper, less color, and just a lot more wear. If we are just counting folds then the $1,000 is technically an XF 45. I am calling it an apparent 35 because of the eye appeal and corner issue.

Also, there is no such thing as a "details" grade with paper money. There are PQ grades, standard grades, and then apparent and net grades. Everything gets a number grade no matter what.

in hand there are only 3 folds that I could see but the two center ones are quite heavy. If it doesn't come back as a miscut I think I'm hoping for XF40 apparent but I think VF 35 apparent is indeed likely.
As for why send it out to get graded, it seems to me like the premiums on $1000s are much greater when graded. People tend to buy the slab and not the note online.
