In this I will keep an updated list of books that I buy, my initial impressions on them, as well as ask questions about books I have or want. Books I own -Various copies of the Red Book from 1964-2014 (Always a great resource for price history) -Grading coins by photographs (Probably my favorite book so far, great for grading) -A guide book of US type coins (Great information on type collecting) -A Guide Book of United States Commemorative Coins (In the mail) -A Guide Book of Lincoln Cents (Wonderful history and suggestions for LC collecting) -History of the United States Mint and Its Coinage (Currently reading) -Coins: questions and answers (Interesting tidbits of information) My to purchase list -Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American Coins -A Guide Book of United States Tokens and Medals -Fascinating Facts, Mysteries, and Myths About US coins -100 Greatest Modern US coins -American Silver Eagles: A Guide to the US Bullion Coin Program -A Guide Book of Flying Eagle and Indian Head cents -A Guide Book of Franklin & Kennedy half dollars -A Guide Book of Morgan silver dollars -A Guide Book of Peace dollars -A Guide Book of the Official Red Book of United States coins -A Guide Book of Modern United States Proof Coin Sets -The Authoritative Reference on Roosevelt dimes -The Coin Collector's Survival Manual -The Official ANA Grading Standards for US coins Everybody with any insight is welcome to give any input on any numismatic book, whether it is listed or not. whywing Valued Member United States 75 Posts	Posted 10/06/2013 3:09 pm My first question is about A Guide Book of Franklin & Kennedy half dollars. I read a pretty scathing review for this book where the reviewer said as far as collecting it is useless, the author apparently specializes in buying and selling halves so this is written almost purely for investment. Does anybody have or know more about this book? I would love to hear something a little more direct about it to clear up the faceless review. Report this Post to the Staff

For Franklin and Kennedy half dollars, here are some books you should consider: The Complete Guide to Franklin half dollars, Rick Tomaska (2nd ed. 2002) Treasure Hunting Franklin and Kennedy half dollar Doubled Dies, Kevin Flynn and John Wexler (2003) The Kennedy half dollar Book, James Wiles Treasure Hunting Franklin and Kennedy half dollar Doubled Dies, Kevin Flynn and John Wexler (2003) Above is an excerpt from a list of recommended books, which you can find here, http://www.freewebs.com/maprince230/Books.html This is list is more of an intermediate level library for most series it covers but it lists many good books. One thing I notice about your list is that there are many " RedBook" series books and although they offer much great information, I feel you will benefit much more from the more specialized books. For example, The Complete Guide to Franklin half dollars by Rick Tomaska is considered the definitive guide on the series, and I believe you should be able to find a copy for around $25. Don't fall for high prices, I kept waiting and finally picked up a new shrink wrapped copy for under $15 on ebay, while I regularly see copies being offered at $50.00 + "Buy the Book Before You Buy the Coin" - Aaron R. Feldman - "And read it" - Me 2013! westcoin Pillar of the Community United States 9792 Posts	Posted 10/20/2013 6:00 pm A Guide Book of Flying Eagle and Indian Head cents is a really good book, if you get more into the series look into Rick Snow's other books on the series, he co-wrote this one with Q. David Bowers and it is one of the best "guide books" in the entire Whitman series IMO. whywing Valued Member United States 75 Posts	Posted 10/26/2013 2:09 pm I pulled the trigger on The Authoritative Reference on Roosevelt dimes and it should arrive in a few days, I am very excited for this one. I really like the RedBook series books that I have read, all that I have read have given me a good history of the coin (politics, strikes, populations, etc). The thing I am least interested in is price which is always going to be out of date when it comes to printed information. @CBJesse your link to the list of books does not work but I will look into what you specifically listed. @westcoin Thanks for the heads up on the price, I will definitely hold out for a good price which I have started doing on any and every book that I buy. As far as Rick Tomaska's book, what kind of information is dated compared to what is still relevant? Report this Post to the Staff
