Don't see a coin like this up everyday. I'm suprised a coin store has it as opposed to an auction house as well (although it is Canadian Coin and Currency). Wonder what they are looking to charge? The HST would be brutal!

SPP - Did they have it at the show on the weekend? I wasn't looking for 1921 halves, but the 1921 5 cents caught my eye, so I would've thought this would too.

For me...They're going to have to move it down the left side column to ..."Deal of the Week".......

Nice soft colour toning....How do they do that?

I don't even think I could afford the TAX!

*sigh*

I know there are certain key dates I don't have yet.. and while I love 50 cent pieces.. I must say I don't think I'll ever LEGALLY get my hands on a '21

Just recently the R.C.M. released thousands of 100 year old gold coins that were found in the back of a vault during spring cleaning. I wouldn't be surprised if they found 100K, 1921, half dollars in the same vault under a bunch of old newspaper the custodian missed.
Kind of be nice in a way, we'd all be able to own a Mintstate example!

Wasn't it public knowledge that the gold coins were in the vault though? It would be nice though!!

At the Coin Expo, asked for curiosity only the price, around 300,000.00 quite a large HST.

Just like when buying a house. The HST is too expensive.

the few and far betweenies that can afford 1/2 million dollar coins, cars, homes and other toys, never worry about the tax, 'cause they can afford that too!

Glenzy1 do you think the coin will be around for long?

Just wondering if this is a coin that some collector with money will snatch up quickly or do we feel it is likely to sit on the shelves awhile? Wonder what they paid for such a coin ?

jb - It's hard to say. Most collectors with money who want one of these probably have one already. This one is MS66, which I believe makes it tied as finest known. It's possible someone has a 64 or 65 and wants to upgrade. It's also possible that some collector has recently come into some money and will buy it. However, I doubt it will go that quickly - especially if they are asking $300,000. I believe the last one this nice sold for $220,000 (plus BP).

As for what CC&C paid for it - they didn't. The owner probably brought it to them and offered them 5-10% to sell it for him. He may have needed some cash, so maybe they gave him some money for now, and the rest payable when it's sold - but I highly doubt they actually purchased it, it would be way too much of a gamble, and tie up too much cash.
