Friends ... No, it's not John McCain ... I saw this listing when it first came up early this morning, and the coin looked way too familiar, and way too nice. I did a Google image search and discovered that the images that are being used in this auction were stolen from the Coinfacts site, now owned by PCGS. Since I don't "own" the images, I can't effectively report the problem to ebay. I have notified PCGS of the fraud, and wanted to make sure that nobody gets stung. Is there a coin? ... Maybe there is and maybe there isn't. Its not a gamble I'd be willing to take. "Zero" feedback is not a good sign in this case. The seller has probably gotten the boot for similar activity, or it may even be a stolen account. I had a little "back and forth" with the seller ... and he denies that the images were copied and pasted from Coinfacts, claiming to have taken them with his cell phone. Here's a link to the offending listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...:RTQ:US:1123...and here's a link to the coinfacts page that the pics were taken from: http://www.coinfacts.com/large_cent...arieties.htmChance

Fine job of spotting this apparent scam, CS ... Or should I say XF!

If he took those pictures with his cellphone, I'm Santa Claus. Report him to ebay and contact PCGS too. He'll be done.

I knew I had him "dead to rights" when his first response was to get snotty and attack my grammar and sentence structure. I had made a typo ... "i" instead of "in" ... I've reported it to both ebay and PCGS, but it wouldn't hurt if they got a few more reports. Chance

Actually I think it's very obvious he took the photo with his cell phone. You can clearly see the distinguishing vertical lines that appears on any photo taken of a computer monitor/ tv screen. He did one better than saving the image to his computer and using that.
You really have to wonder what kind of people would actually bid on this

I think he actually meant he took a picture of the actual coin with his phone.

If you have an application that supports drag and drop, you can copy an image to your "clipboard" from anywhere on the web, or within your computer, and drop or paste it into another document without saving to your hard drive. The down side ... is that it always shows vertical biasing, exactly like those images.
The seller implied that he'd taken pictures of the coin that was in his possession, and that the coin shown was his coin. That one's a stretch better than EF ... probably one of the finest known, whihc the coinfacts page states is an MS-65B

Nice catch, it never surprises me the sheer laziness of these scams. You really couldnt pick a much more obvious source then ripping off coinfacts photos. I don't know what kind of computer you have but I can copy any picture on the net to my clipboard and drop it in any program I have and its perfectly copied with no lines.

I haven't tried it recently ... since it used to be an inferior way of copying an image. I've used HP products for more than a decade, a couple desktops, and now a 17" laptop that never leaves the house....but doesn't have a bale of wires hooking everything up.

I asked if the coin pictured is the one the winner will receive last night. No answer yet.
