I was wondering if this miscut 1973 $1 note holds any premium. I'm new to collecting paper money and have no clue. If anyone has an idea of its value...please enlighten me. :) Thank you in advance.

I don't see any part of another note. Unfortunately no premium on this one, it was just poorly cut.

I think it might bring a small premium. This note looks uncirculated, and would be (around) $3.00 without the error.

For it to be an offcut error that will derrive a premium... you need to have part of the adjacent note.
Unfortunately there were a tonne of people that bought those $1 sheets of 40 uncut notes.... Some junk heads thought they could "create" errors...
This looks like one of those "creations"...
Into the realm of "spender" for me

The sheets which were released were only of certain prefixes. I don't remember them all off hand (BFK was one), but none of them were 2 letter prefixes. So it isn't a "created" error from a sheet released to the public. It came from the Bank of Canada like that.
Little to no premium since it's just not off center enough to see a part of the next note over.

Quote: The sheets which were released were only of certain prefixes. I don't remember them all off hand (BFK was one), but none of them were 2 letter prefixes. That's correct. The other prefixes used in sheets were: BFD, BFL, BAX (Replacement Sheet), ECP, ECR, ECV, ECW and EAX (Replacement Sheet)

Thank you all for the information. Exactly the info I needed to make a decision. It was a note I was looking at buying. A friend had it listed on my areas local Facebook Auction. He ended up getting $11 for it. I just did not know how far off the note had to be to hold any sort of premium.
Now I will be better prepared next time I have a chance to make such a purchase.
Thank you for all the informative replies.

These 1973 notes are famous for persons cutting them with scissors, to purpusefully create error note, and so it really doesnot command a premium....They were issued for a while in uncut sheet of 40 notes I believe....people cut in 2's or 4's and sell the pair of notes for 6 to 9.oo......

I bought the $1 & $2 sheets at the time the Bank of Canada was phasing them out.....I doubt there ever will be a shortage of these, as they were scads of them....I don't doubt that someone has cut them up to spend them over the years....especially if you have given them to a kid, who turns into a teenager needing some cash.
