Hello to all, I just acquired this 1834 Capped Bust quarter - only 286,000 were minted. I like the coin and I think it is VG-8.
I gave $70 for it, what do you think? Any help is greatly appreciated.

VG-10 maybe F-12. Surfaces look a little rough and may have been in the ground for some time.

What do you mean by "questionable authenticity", what are you seeing that makes you think it's fake?

The obverse doesn't look bad, but the reverse just way throws me off. Like I said, I don't know the series... the coin just looks "off". If it's real, (And it probably is) it's VG Details.

Tough grade - split obverse/reverse. Obverse is an easy F12, reverse no better than VG8 which is the grade I'll offer. I'm not willing to come down with certainty about the surfaces based on these images but nothing really alarms me.

Looks real enough, just rough surfaces that might not earn a problem-free grade. Net VG-8 seems about right.

Could be the "O over F" variety; check between the O and F of OF on the reverse. This variety is usually seen with a somewhat rotated reverse and the tops of the A in STATES and the first A in AMERICA are filled. Here's a close-up of my example so you'll know what to look for:

The detail looks VG but there appears to be some light corrosion and/or environmental damage to the surfaces. $70 would be full retail price for this one.
