I found a 1916 and 1919-D merc dimes about two weeks ago dumping coin from my business in the coin machine at the bank.
I usually only keep silver quarters so I had no idea about the rarity of the 1916-D until I got home with them and looked them up... I about had a heart attack when I saw I could have a $7000 coin in my hand, until I saw the lack of mint mark on the back! UGH! But I was still happy to find it. Dimes are 100% profit in my business!
The 1916 is worn pretty heavy on the edges so not a good grade by any means but still cool. The 1919-D is in better shape. I'll have to try to get photos on here.
Amazing that there are any Mercury dimes in circulation at all. Once the Silver price went sky rocketing, people went nuts looking for any coin with Silver. One more thing is the 16D is one of the most counterfeited coins in the world. If you do find one, good chance it's a fake. to the Forum
