I was looking at EAC's cause I'm in the market for 2 large cents... I have talked to a few people and they say I should be able to get a VF-XF common date for around $50.00... I'm not seeing anything like that but double the price and you might can get a VF with details..... does anyone know of any other site besides ebay to look for Early American Coppers? or does anyone have any avail, check out my ad in the traders section to see what I want... PEACE...

Yes I would say they have gone up in price quite a lot the past few years. Nice original problem free coins are getting harder to locate and at a low price - forget it!

I've picked a heck of a time to finally get bitten by the EAC bug myself, so I'm collecting the tough to find books more than the coins myself, one thing reading about EAC's and joining the EAC Club has taught me is to slow down, and hold out for great examples. One thing that stuck out in my mind was the comment, "one should only buy a coin that means something beyond ownership to add to his/her collection" You should know the coin intimately, and know why you bought it, not just another one to fill a hole in an album. I've been trying to follow that advice and it's kept me from purchasing quite a few EAC coins that I probably would have just put in a box. The few EAC's I do have now, I really know and understand them more than just by a date and grade. It was good advice.

Keep your eyes out and keep searching you will eventually find the right EAC coins you are looking for, (oh and keep saving your money while you search, as they sure aren't getting any cheaper)!

P.S. Look for an email from me on this too.

Considering the early coppers have been steadily increasing for years and show no sign of stopping, better now than later.

I think your absolutely right WC about knowing the coin you are getting... that's why I picked the EAC's I did from the guy I got them from... some are just in really good shape for the age and others are rare and "exotic"... I picked up a 1850 braided hair last night for $18.00, it has no surface scratches and minimal wear... my EAC guy said that the coins I bought from him were a very smart investment and if he ever has anything I want just let him know and he will hold it and let me make payments... hes a really cool dude... pretty soon though ill be out of the coppers and cents and into the silver portions of my 7070...

the more I learn about coins the more I like the coins, the more I want to have a book of them lol.... I have to wait a few weeks to get the last coronet needed for my book... then ill be ready to get into the small cents and wreak havoc on those for a couple of months...

your right as well conder101... I hear a lot of people say that the older the better and condition is everything when it comes to investment collecting.... they aren't making any more of them and they are getting harder and harder to find in the better conditions...

my next book is going to be a LCA40 Littleton 19th and 20th century type set.....so ill deffinately be buying more EAC's and other awesome coins for my collection.... PEACE...

I have been in the market for some low "investment grade" truly problem free EACs. They are all in private collections. The only ones on the market are either significantly overpriced or sub prime examples.

An article in Coin World said something similar.
Good older material is going into private collections and remaining there.
So the supply is dwindling but the demand remains at least steady.
That means prices will increase.

I could kick myself for not buying a nice chain cent when they were "affordable".
