I like that Monaco piece. Since we are still on 1946, here's another bit of silver from a tiny European country that deserves to be shown. 0.835 silver; 37mm; mintage= 98 thousand.

It begins... hoping to see some occupation zinc over the next couple of days! Newfoundland, 10 cents, 1945. This is not the nicest but I got it at melt. In 1949, Newfoundland was incorporated into Canadian Confederation, and we are glad to have them on board. At that time, Newfoundland was basically floating around aimlessly (its parliament had voted itself out of existence in the 1930s in the hopes that the British would take care of them, and the British didn't want to deal with this, especially during World War II). The referendum was very, very close (50-something for/40-something against). If they had stayed separate, it would have been interesting to see what would have happened to their coins. The idea of a Newfie loonie and toonie is surprisingly alluring. And a series of actual coin designs (compare the boring pre-1936 Canadian coins with the exciting George Kruger-Gray designs of 1937 and onward) would have been very fun to see! Sadly, it was not meant to be. If Quebec ever leaves us (but let's hope not, we love you Quebec) I hope they do something equally interesting with their coins.

Nice one mysilveryears, I started with Luxembourg copper back on page 29 Well well well, 1945, what a year to end a war? This one is silver too, 1945 50 cent piece Over the next few days we might see coins from the Philippines that says "Japanese Government", and some time next week I'll have another coin from the Philippines that says "United States of America" Edit: forgot to mention this one is silver too.

ASLAN beat me to the Philippines, so I will post this instead. One penny from across the pond.

Great coins from Costa Rica and Switzerland, how are you getting the side by side, tons of photoshoping that I could never have the patience, or am I missing something in the Image Optimizer?

I take and crop pictures of the obverse and reverse. Then in Paint, I change the image size of the obverse to twice as wide. This opens a blank portion beside the obverse picture. Then I just copy and paste the reverse image into the blank spot. I usually have to stretch or shrink the reverse to match heights.

Didn't post any of my half dollars yet: we've seen plenty of Kennedy and Franklin halves nicer than mine (and better pictures generally). The Walking Liberty is the design I prefer. A good reason to make an exception posting this circulated 1945.

Hi Aslan TVorlon I used Photoshop to make my side-by-side images. (The image optimizer program looked complicated so I haven't tried it yet.) I cropped my images as squares, looked at the resolution, and created a blank document at the same resolution but as wide as both squares side by side. After that all you do is drag-and-drop and save the image. [I'm dealing with low resolution images to start with since my good camera wore out and died. I only have a point-and-shoot camera right now.]
