A half crown always has been more appealing to me. It's larger and little heavier than a half dollar is. It was circulating alongside the florin, which was worth little less, much like having quarters and Twenty Cents at the same time. Moreover it was the first coin sacrificed when decimalizing the pound, whereas the shilling and florin were going to continue circulating in parallel with their 5 and 10 pence equivalents. Just to cut things short: here's a 1934 half crown. Not really a key-year, but -with a 2M4 mintage- one of the less common.   |

I'm slowly working on a half crown date set. Requirements are that they be melt tub gleanings and VF or above for the .500 silver years. It kinda bothers me how brownish and coppery-looking those low silver coins can get with not much circulation. It's not French-language but Dutch-language - Belgian coins alternate. Thanks muddler ...me too I am starting to like a lot of the World big silver coins. I picked up several more coins this afternoon, still trying to figure out what some of them are. This one I figured out. Austria 1934 Funf (Five) Schilling .8350 Fine silver ASW .4027 Doesn't list size, but is about 30mm Obv Haloed double eagle with Austrian shield Rev Standing figure of Madonna of Mariazell   |

1933 George V Wreath Crown:  Unusually, no crown was issued for the first set of George V's coins in 1911, and collectors had to wait until Kruger Gray's new coins in 1927 for the Wreath crown. These coins were issued in small numbers around Christmas each year so that they could be given as presents. The 1933 coin has a mintage of 7,312. Of course, it's nowhere near as valuable as the penny of the same year... Edited by NumisRob

With over 24 M coins minted, this 1933 French silver (0.680) 20 Francs coin of the Turin design is one of the more common large silver coins around. This type of coin was minted from 1929 till 1939, (with 1936 and 1939 the real key dates). http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces684.html  |
