GR58, I was anticipating seeing your beautiful $10 eagle, envy you for that coin.

Today we have the key to the Washington quarter set.

A couple of Belgian coins for today: the two language versions of the (nickel) 50 centimes coins of the Bonnetain design. Contrary to franc and five franc coins, which were downsized often during the 170 years the currency has existed, the 50 centimes always had a diameter of approx. 19 mm.

Until WW I, they were silver coins. The pure nickel Bonnetain type still has the inscription 'Bon pour' or 'Goed voor' on top, still referring to the silver coinage it replaced and claiming in vain that silver coinage might return.

New copper 50 centimes replaced this coin only from 1952 onwards.

That is a very interesting coin. I never knew there was a
coin with a halibut .. or is that a flounder.

Reminds me of my younger days ... catching halibut off the coast of Alaska.
