1931 One Penny from Ireland.

Four Belga or 20 francs, a massive 37 mm pure nickel coin issued only in 1931 and 1932. Belgium had to give up the gold standard after WW-I, mainly because massive printing of paper currency during german occupation. Silver coinage had disappeared and new nickel coins were to replace the smaller banknotes.

The edition of belga coins and banknotes during the depression of the early 1930's were to make prices look much lower and boost consumption (without much success).

The large and rather clumsy four Belga coin never was very popular and most were returned to the national bank, making the coin not common today.

Reverse: Denomination 'Quatre Belga' and 20 ... Fr on either side of the coat of arms. The date 19 ... 31 at the bottom also is split.

An old penny from South Africa, which went roughly from indigenous to Dutch to independent to British to independent to nice and independent. Mintage is under 1,000,000 but as with most world coins this hardly means anything.
