A 1926 British shilling - a kind of hybrid issue with the Modified Effigy on the obverse but the same reverse design that had been used since 1902.  |

 Austria, 1 schilling, 1926 The hardest date of the Schillings is 1932. The full set has a phenomenal amount of variety with some lovely designs - silver, copper-nickel, aluminum, aluminum-bronze, it's all there. The 1924 schilling contained a bit more silver than this one. |

I keep wondering about this Oregon Trail commemorative is the Indian Chief standing in the middle of the country and trying to hold back the progress of the Oregon Trail, or is he just directing traffic?  His bow, staff, whatever it is could be made into a crossing guard "Stop" sign by someone that is better with Photoshop than me.  |

I always thought this "Island Krona" was some South Pacific island coin, until I looked it up for this post. 1925 was the first year for the aluminium-bronze Iceland Krona. http://us.exchangecurrency.biz/currencies/isk"The Icelandic krona separated from the Danish krone after the dissolution of the Scandinavian Monetary Union at the start of World War I and Icelandic autonomy from Denmark in 1918. The first coins were issued in 1922. Iceland's first coins were 10 and 25 eyrir pieces introduced in 1922. These were followed in 1925 by denominations 1 and 2 krona pieces and in 1926 by 1, 2 and 5 eyrir pieces. In 1946, the coins' designs were altered to remove the royal monogram (CXR), following Icelandic independence from Denmark in 1944, when Denmark (but not Iceland) was occupied by Nazi Germany. "  |

French 'Chamber of Commerce' 2 Francs 1925  These coins replaced silver after World War I. They have always been among my favorites. Although the series is quite short, there are several scarce dates and plenty of varieties if you like that sort of thing! |

Austrian 10 Groschen, 1925.  The size, appearance and the obverse of this coin - picturing a Tyroler woman - is identical to that of the 1000 Krone coin of 1924. At the end of WW I, the Austrian-Hungarian empire desintegrated, causing hyperinflation in Austria. A 10,000:1 currency reform gave rise to the Austrian Schilling, thereby stabilizing the exchange rate. |
