Hello fellow collectors,

I'd been eager to build an album of Sac. I already had my paper album 1999-2006 Sac. I want to put it in my album. However, I read many article about paper (paper holder, paper roll...) has substance that will destroy your coin over time, especially Sac. is that true?

So, my question is: What's the best way to build a set/album, using what material? What kind of album (holder material) that you guys are using to build your sets/albums?

Thanks

Hmmm. Well first a comment on SACS - if you're just going to collect the P and D ones for each year and no proofs, any quality album you buy will probably cost more than the coins - but apparently the SAC will be living on for a few more years.....

Basically, almost any album on the market that isn't one of those with the holes cut out of carboard will do. I'm talking about those folders where you push the coin in with your thumb.

The key word is ALBUM (and not FOLDER).

Almost all albums that either use a 2x2 system or the plastic sliding windows would be just fine for a SAC collection.

The cheapest way for most coins is to buy the 2x2 mylar holders and then get a 3-ring binder. This is certainly more than adequate when you're first starting out.

Dansco and Littleon albums have a separate sheath that can be bought to protect against gases and sulfur in the air. Plus, you can buy special pages that can prevent toning. Also, you probably want to buy a dessicant (silica) to keep the humidity down.

I have 96 Whitman Albums of almost every possible denomination. I've had coins in them for more years than most people have been alive. I've collected coins for well over 60 years and no problems yet. Of course who knows what will happen in the next 100 years.

I bought an old Wayte Raymond "folder" for Roosevelt dimes to see if I could get them to tone like I have seen some of the older original sets. I've had BU's in there for about two years and sure enough, they are starting to get some really neat colors.

I think the key is the sulphur content that was used in the older folders and albums.

Have a great one!
