I have heard of these before and I have a few and I have a couple questions. Why are they dateless is it an error and are they worth anything more?

They are not worth more and they are dateless because it is a high point on the coin and it wears out fast.

There is a product called Nic-a-Date that is used to help "restore" the date. Since nickels are made of a copper and nickel alloy the Nic-a-Date chemicals attack the copper and nickel metals at different rates (That's a simple explanation but will suffice for now). After a few seconds in the solution the date faintly reappears. Not as good as when originally made but it works.

As far as value, untreated, no dates that are not mint marked are worth about ten cents each at the wholesale level. On the online auction sites like ebay they go for 15 to 20 cents each and mostly sell in lots of 100 to 1000 coins pieces. Untreated no dates with mint marks command a premium and go for 50 to 75 cents each online.

I have seen acid treated key dates like the 13-S T-2 and 18/17-D over dates sell and some of the grading services will actually slab them "genuine".

Good luck!

Even on Buffs with a worn date you can generally see the mint mark if there is one.
If there's no mm then it's not really worth checking.
The exception: 1916 DDO.

No need for nic a date, throw those suckers in vinegar. Change when the vinegar turns blue, pull the coin as soon as it has a date.
